Thanks to the generosity of T. Denny Sanford, donors now have the opportunity to literally double their contribution to Crazy Horse Memorial. The T. Denny Sanford Foundation has provided a $5 million challenge grant that matches dollar for dollar every donation earmarked for the mountain carving.

"South Dakota has been good to me and it's time to give back. I have long admired the years of dedication and hard work by the Ziolkowski family and their passion for creating a fitting memorial to Native Americans," Sanford said.

"Exciting progress continues to be made on the mountain carving and Denny's wonderful gift is going to allow us to accelerate the completion of the horse's head," stated Ruth Ziolkowski, wife of sculptor Korczak and President/CEO of the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation. "$2 million of the match has already been raised with the help of our many friends from throughout the country." (1/1/2010 UPDATE: $3 Million!)

South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds shares the excitement that Sanford's gift creates. "Denny Sanford continues to be a generous benefactor for our state and Crazy Horse Memorial is a South Dakota treasure. I urge everyone to join me in supporting this noble cause."

Crazy Horse Memorial receives no government funding and is totally self-supported through admission fees and contributions. The Sanford gift is the largest in the project's 60-year history.
